When are HTF kits made available?
The ferret breeding cycle is dictated by photo periods. This means jills (females) come into season when the days start getting longer.
This translates into the beginning of breeding season starting in January. Breeding should be done by the end of summer. I only breed my jills once a year and have
a very limited number of kits as a result.
When can I pick out my kit?
Once kits are born, I will be accepting deposits of $100 (of which $25 is refundable if you decide not to adopt a kit). This deposit will save
your place in order of overall choosing. I will be posting pictures periodically online that can be used to help make a decision. Be prepared to have a
second choice as I wait until the kits are older to make my personal choice for future breeding. When you send in your deposit, I also ask that you fill
out an application which will include your choice on sex and color. I will do my best to be as accomodating as possible. You are welcome to come by the
ferretry to pick out your kit by appointment.
Will my kits be spayed or neutered?
All kits are sold intact and it is your responsibility to have the kit spayed or neutered upon sexual maturity (6-12 months of age). All ferrets will
be sold on a pet contract. This contract states that you will not breed the animal and will have it spayed or neutered by 12 months of age. Veterinary
documentation of the procedure must be provided to me as part of the agreement.
What vaccinations will my kit have?
All kits will be placed with at least one distemper vaccine (either Fervac-D or PurVax). If kits are placed after 14 weeks, they will have their entire
distemper series. They can receive thier rabies vaccine (IMRAB 3) after 16 weeks. Older ferrets will have received their entire series.
When can I pick up my kit?
Kits are ready to go home no earlier than 10-12 weeks. This is dependent on their physical and mental development. I do NOT ship my ferrets anywhere. Kits can
be picked up at the ferretry upon appointment or at any of the ferret shows HTF will be attending. Keep in mind that kits can not enter the show hall before
they are 16 weeks old. With kits under 16 weeks of age, other arrangements can be made.
What about older ferrets?
Periodically older ferrets will be made available throughout the year. These ferrets will be spayed or neutered and updated on their vaccinations. Price is
dependent on age of the ferret.
Prices
Prices depend on genealogy. Currently, prices are between $250-$400.
